Sigma 12-24mm f/4 Dg Hsm Art

Downtown Kuwait

Hey all, It’s time for wide angle photography.....

It was a cold & dusty day when i climbed the abandoned building around Kuwait City. And yes, I was really excited as I had the brand new Sigma 12-24 f4 lens and was time to do some field tests.

The moment it was announced, I was adamant on testing it.. To my luck, couple of days back our local authorized re-seller in Kuwait, AAB World, had received their stock and was very kind enough to lend me a piece. I am a fig fan and always use canon 11-24 f4 L- the wide-angle beast & the #1 ultra-wide lens in the category for more than a year.

The moment I got the SIGMA 12-24 ART series, I was taken by surprise with the new build quality & the design they have put into this beauty. So, after climbing to the top floor, I was a bit disappointed as the view was not impressive, having that said, i still managed to get a frame from the first day - a warm and moody city covered in dust.

Next day, I woke up early and headed to Sharq market to capture some blue hour shots. Although it was not windy, the weather was freezing, never the less, Me and my fotog friends started shooting the blue hour. Today, more than framing the shots, I was inclined towards checking in the quality of the lens, so started shooting at different focal lengths, starting from 12mm, 14mm, all the way to 24mm.

See below for yourself the surprisingly awesome results I got from this lens.

Now that I was running out of time on the blue hour, every image shot was brighter than the previous one shot (all shots were shot at 45 seconds).

The outcome was very impressive. I did have a little bit of vignette which i did not really care for, as this is the case with my canon 11-24. This is something which can be easily corrected during post processing.

Following the above shots, I shot the bright moon and managed to get a great frame with a star bust effect of the moon. Really loved the starburst effect, although the lens flare was just an OK

After the blue hour shoot and some morning rides, I got an access to the rooftop of Panasonic towers to shoot some cityscape in the evening.

A very big thanks to the management for access at a very short notice. Adding some favorite frames from the cityscape evening.

As someone who loves using wide angle lenses, the Sigma 12-24mm f/4 Art was a blast to use.

From my few days of using it, it definitely holds its own against the Canon 11-24 f/4L, Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, and Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 with its zero distortion - yes ZERO DISTORTION and extreme ultra wide capability. you can feel the zero distortion from the above image.

Another fine evening, I had tested the lens for long exposure Cityscape, and the result is this... a 100 Second exposure of f16, ISO50 @12mm

Without having a star trail photo, it will be injustice to a wide angle lens review.

see the startrail image of 2.5 hours data, @12mm.

The new 12-24mm Art is built to the same standards as Sigma’s other Art lenses—a very solid feel when holding it, and excellent image quality and correct the distortion in an outstanding way. The focus ring is built in the edge of the built-in hood, i don't know how the filter manufacturers can manage to construct the filter system for it. Hopefully it will be the same technology as the lens cap; Let the game leave for the filter manufacturers.

Startrail.

Thanks to 'AAB World Kuwait' for lending me this beautiful lens for all the above tests.

Thanks to 'Panasonic tower' management for arranging an access to shoot the city from top.

Thanks to My 'Fotografia' team (FQ8) for the support.

Check out this lens as soon as you get a chance at AAB world Also do not forget to look into the full range of the new lenses.
